to be fair, the 3D printers that are available at what I would consider a consumer price point (sub 2k) are kinda crap too. you can clearly see the print lines and most can only print in relatively low melting plastics. I'd say that right now they're at a comparative level to the Dot Matrix printers of the 80s. so in about 10-15 years everyone will have one that's at the level they're at now. and a few will have the ones that are faster or can print in "better" materials.
